The animal rights group PETA has recently criticized 3D Super Mario Land for the Tanooki suit that is worn in the game of Mario. Nintendo has been accused of it, to trivialize the murder of defenseless animals as the endangered breed dogs are skinned for their fur in Mader. Shakira Croce, media coordinator of PETA rows, then back a little and tried to explain the campaign, especially because it was still a bloody flash game released.

According to her, the game was meant ironically, in a fun way to draw attention to the serious topic. Previously, the Japan expert, author and game translator Matt has turned old and noted that PETA has the Tanooki suit not well understood, because in Japan the Tanookis apply in addition to the real animals as mythical creatures, which are regarded as a symbol of good luck be. Mario wears therefore no fur, he is transformed into a much more Tanooki.

Shakira Croce has included this statement in its case, at least to some extent: “We want real Tanukis could fly or chip off enemies with their tails, and so those escape who earn money with their skin you can help them by their not real fur. buys. ” The PETA spokeswoman Ashley Palmer added that no one seriously believes that Mario really kills raccoon dogs.

Ashley Palmer is also surprised at how many people have taken seriously the Flash game, but overall we are pleased with the results thus resulting PETA attention. According to official figures, 250,000 people of the organization have tried the game within the first 36 hours.
